On September 9, 2008 the Unirights Universal Human Rights Network held a Round table Conference on an issue of increasing importance in the global human rights communities. The subject of course was Human Trafficking. The conference was held in the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. The conference was in part made possible through the efforts of United States Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee of Texas.
Specifically, the topic of this conference was Human Trafficking in West Africa Cultural Tradition or Human Exploitation? Participants included Mr. Abel Agbebleo first secretary of the embassy of Togo in Washington,DC, Ms. Veronica Zietlin representing the United States Department of State Trafficking in Persons Office and Mr. Martin Edijike Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Attendees included key aides from a number of congressional and senatorial offices, Representatives from other Federal agencies working to combat the scourge of Human Trafficking, members of the Non Governmental Organizations and prominent Human Rights Activist. This Event will be followed by Conferences on Human Trafficking in other parts of the world.
